Student's Mysterious Disappearance Triggers Family's Desperation

When 22-year-old Vikas Kamati boarded the Pawan Express back to Darbhanga, no one expected him to vanish without a trace. He’d just spent nearly three weeks in Mumbai, visiting his aunt, and was due back with his family in Bihar. But after texting his family about reaching Darbhanga Junction after midnight, Vikas simply dropped off the radar. The last anyone saw of him was on a grainy CCTV feed, where he was spotted entering the Mithila Waiting Hall—after that, nothing.

His belongings, including his bag, were picked up at the spot. But his mobile phone? Switched off and untraceable. For a student pursuing graduation at CM College, Darbhanga, and whose only plans were to see family, this sudden disappearance has left everyone stunned and worried.

A Trail That Starts—and Ends—At the Station

Tracing Vikas's steps, the sequence feels downright chilling. He called his family late at night, around 12 or 1 a.m., signaling his safe arrival by train. As far as anyone knows, he made it off the Pawan Express, walked into the bustling Mithila Waiting Hall—then seemed to simply vanish. The CCTV footage shows him heading towards Platform 2, but after that, the trail goes cold. Local station staff found his possessions but nothing that offered a clue about where he went next.

While Vikas’s father was working overseas, the family went into panic mode. His mother’s health reportedly took a severe hit from the shock and grief. Instead of help, the family says that both the local Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force refused to register a missing persons report at first. Multiple attempts to push for an official case were met with stonewalling, the family claims, as precious hours ticked away.

The atmosphere now hangs thick in their home in the Ghanshyampur police station area. Frustration with authorities grows as each day passes with no news. Despite eventually logging their complaint, there’s been no real progress or sign of their son. For the family, it’s an agony that’s made even sharper by the sense that the very people who were supposed to help simply shrugged and looked away.

The search for Vikas Kamati is now more than just one family’s crisis; it’s a gut-wrenching reminder of how easily someone can disappear—and how hard it can be to get answers when they do.
